Yes that is exactly what happened. My connection was originally between the fuse and the headlight, and therefore only energising one light. I put the relays between the dimmer switch and the fuses and therefore putting the power through the fuses and energising both lights.

Not true. Please read my wiring directions carefully at > Vanagon Headlamp Relay <http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/hdltrela.htm> Upgrade. The fuses are still fusing the headlamps. The problem you may be having is your making the connection at the wrong side of the fuse, read and follow the directions carefully. I install these relay in my customers vans frequently and encounter no problems.
