Craig,

I support the engine with a 2.4 across the engine bay, too. But, I took a chisel and made a small well (1"x1" x 1/2" deep?) near one end of the 2x4. I support that end of the 2x4 with a small bottle jack (obviously with the end of the jack in the well), which makes raising and lowering the engine real easy.
