Subject: one last (ha ha) problem with my Vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

I've fixed so many things on my 84GL 1.9L 4 speed over the last 9 months I couldn't possibly list them here. Needless to say I'm really glad to have it back on the road. Now that I'm driving it again I realize I missed it more than I thought. So here's the last problem. When I start it cold (not ambient temperature, but as in "it's been setting for a few hours") it will idle but won't "run". If I step on the gas it will bog and stall. I have to feather the gas to get the engine revs up. Once they're up it revs normally but when it drops back to idle I have the feather the gas again. This goes on for up to five minutes depending on how cold the ambient is. I've put up with a lot worse in this and other cars but I'm concerned that when the temperatures start to drop in fall and winter it might start taking a lot longer to get it running in the morning. Anybody have any ideas what to check? The TempII sensor is new, my grounds are clean, the idle controller seems to work (it idles worse when it's shunted), the aux air valve doesn't do much with the hose open or pinched. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thx

Thomas Brobst
