The chances of the Bolt/Sensor needing replacement is slight at best - it
works under a similar (but not exactly) principle that the Wasserboxer
Coolant Expansion Level Sensor does, which is discussed on the list here
forever :-) (the "blinking led syndrome"). I would try cleaning it (and the
other 3 - there are usually 4) and reinstall/seal them back into the tank.
The seals were never sold as a separate item from the sensor based on
reference data I have. You may have to work up a make-do seal/grommet from
something similar from the plumbing/hardware store. If using a sealant from
a tube of "goop", be sure it doesn't affact the potability of the fresh
water system or ruin the plastic tank itself.
Bus Depot lists them at $15.35 each, VW # 253070569. Dunno if they keep 'em
in stock and I'm not sure if VOA carries them anymore.. When I was in the
biz full time I sold two from 1993 thru 1999 ( as a matter of fact, both
times was to replace a missing sensor). Not exactly a *hot seller*. I keep
a couple of good used ones in a baggy in the rear seat box in case (and if
ever) I need to replace one.

My wife and I and our 10 month old son just got back from a wonderful
trip to the outer banks of North Carolina. We bugged out early because of
the storm but none the less had a great time. The water level sender in my
1982 Westy no longer works, worked fine last year, but this year we get
nothing. Do I need to replace or clean the bolts in the tank? If so what
parts do I need to make sure it seals back up nice and tight. Are the bolts
and seals still available?
By the way the fridge worked better than ever with two computer fans on
the back and one inside the fridge, it stayed between 39 and 45 the whole
time.
