Hi Joy,
I've used clear aquarium sealant several times to fix chips in my headlite lenses (and the windshield frame on my 66 convertible)- can't comment on inspection, but if the lense is cleaned well before applying it keeps water out, and seems to handle the heat fine on the 2 vehicles I've done it to.
