Absolutely not! The valve only stops the flow. There is still full
system pressure on the return side when it fails. Also, if it should
suddenly fail just like any other cooling system failure, the sudden
loss of pressure, water turning to system unevenly cooling parts of the
engine will cause some engine damage. I call these failures trauma. Even
if the engine damage is not immediately obvious, it will never be the
same.

Is'nt a good working heater valve (one that shuts off heat completlely
unlike the one in my 87 which needs replacing) sufficient to stop hot
coolant from leaking into the cabin in the event of a heater core leak?
