This is the wrong group for discussing the passat as there are several groups you can join just for passat. I own one and would have to say and others from the passat list would agree, they are less reliable and more costly to maintain than the vanagon. When I switch from my ford van to the vanagon I thought that the engine in the vanagon had a tight fit. Things get a whole lot tighter and more expensive in the passat. You want reliablilty go with a honda or toyota so you have something to drive when the vanagon is down. regards gary Date: Fri, 27 Aug 2004 10:26:59 -0700 From: "Stewart, Donna" <DStewart@REEDSMITH.COM> Subject: LVC: Passat feedback > Time for a new commute car (maybe) - I'd like to hear experiences with = Passats - looking at used ones, say 1999-2002. I'd particularly like to = hear about automatic vs. stick, the 4-cyl vs. a 6 cylinder, and wagons. = A friend's Passat gets over 30mpg (4cyl, 5spd). >=20 > I'd like to stick with my Vanagon but family members don't want me to = wear it out in a commute, and of course mpg is not the greatest. =20 >=20 > Thanks > Donna, 1987 Wolfsburg
