The AL27X is the original Alternator for the 83.5-85 1.9 Wasserboxer and is still offered by Bosch. The AL33X is a newer version original installed on 2.1's and is the interchangeable replacement for 83.5-85 and has an extra "W" terminal not utilized on your year.

Some 85's used a different alternator, AL30X, with a different connector, although I've never seen one yet.
