Provided they are applied well, these are excellent. That is, if they're the iems I'm thinking of... which are softish flexible plastic sheet about 5mm thick. You should be able to buy this in sheets and trim it to size yourself.

I have seen lots of these in pieces by the roadside. They also trap dirt, so the lights have to shine through THREE layers of dirt, and in cleaning will rapidly become microscratched, adding another degree of light-retardation. I wouldn't touch them, sorry.
