Good going.
The 78s are lighter, faster and more agile than Vanagons.
They have different steering and tend to wander a little more than Vanagons
in cross winds but climb hills faster and can easily run 70 mph all day
long.
They'll be a new beast to you though because they're air cooled.

Ok here goes

I drove by a 78 westy campmobile today and saw that it was for sale .
My husband and I took a look at it and took it for a drive. I want it and he
wants to think about it overnight.
The stove and poptop are good (stove works and tank is good --top is good
and canvas has no leaks)
It has hammock ,screens and is very clean.
Runs pretty well (i'm not an expert ) Standard  and seems to shift into all
4 gears and reverse fine -no slipping.
lot's of body work done ,but will need a new paint job down the road to
clean up the touchups and there is a new rubber seal on the poptop.
About 155,000 miles - est because odo and speedo are dead(how much trouble
is this to fix?)
Can anyone give a heads up on what to watch out for since I want to bring
this home .
Our oldest vehicle is an 82 diesel , but it's a jetta as are the 89 and
98(both diesel and standard) . The only Van we have is a 93 EV(gas &
auto),but this is something I've wanted for a very long time and I'd like to
know if there is anything major that I should watch out for.
