Subject: Drowned starter update
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Tonight I installed my Bosch rebuilt starter in my '88 Westy 2.1L WBX, which I am now quite good at, having done so 4-5 times in the past 2 weeks... :-)

I finally gave up on the old one after the solenoid would not reliably send current to the starter. I found that Cdn Tire had a Bosch reman with a 5 yr warranty for $133 CDN, so opted for this over offers of used ones or a new solenoid, since we're hoping to head off again this weekend.

Anyway, my question re: water drainage issues on the old one was answered when I saw that the new unit has a nice rubber drain tube on the end cap of the starter... So I suppose I am not the only one to have filled the thing with water! :-)

For those of you who may cross creeks on occasion, you may want to check if your starter has a drain, and if not, think about adding one. Thanks to all who offered advice and used starters, etc.
