but thats just it.. 5 b book 2500 pages.. flipping back and forth between the correct wiring diagram and the picture of the fuel pump relay housing for instance.. what page is that fues block picture on again?

Something like the Muir book for type 1's although it would be definitely a labor of love (you sure wouldn't make any money on it!) :-)

doable, but not that easy to use... and it definiltely doesnt have the front page list of the things that usually fail at the point in time where our vans are today..

(i.e. where are the warnings in Bently about the fuel delivery system (hoses) going south and burning up the van? :-)

laundry list would help people understand where a particular van is with respect to the things that can go bad.

much of this info folks have learned through experience (or in my case the list, web sites, etc)

I argue that it's not that hard to come up to speed on these vehicles (given a mechanical bent and an inquisitive, willing to learn mind)

Probably a barrier to entry is helpful in that sense.. these are not the sotr of vehicles that you just dump gas and oil in and drive, without paying them a bit of attention.

Having a list might also lead to replacing stuff that really doesnt need replacing, but oh well.

yep.. definitely!
