The door switch has two wires going to that are grounded when the door is open. One is for the interior lights and the other is for the chime. You have a cross connection there.

My chime has developed a wierd quirk. When the key is in the ignition and the door is open, of course the chime happily does it's thing... But when you close the door, the chime continues - but is just barely audible. Starting the engine has no effect, and it continues.
