Peter,

Can't comment on finding another cable but will comment on the existing one. Have you been having problems starting? If not, the PO's mod is probably ok. Of course, it doesn't hurt to make it better with a stock cable (or better).

I'm assuming the cut wires are still tight to the main bundle and were not cut very far back. So, the reduced diameter section of the cable is very short in length, like 1/4 inch or less. If you are nervous, operate the starter for maybe 30 sec. with the coil output shorted and then quickly check to see if that section of the cable is hot or warmer than the rest of the cable in that area. If not, you're ok.
