I posted last week, looking for a new home for my vanagon. It’s become more urgent that I find a place for him. Emissions and inspections are due in August in order to renew registration, which is necessary to keep it on the street in my area. So if it’s registered, it also has to be insured. I no longer feel like we can afford to put more money / time in keeping him in running order. If you are the slightest bit interested in adding this guy to your fleet, come take a look and make me an offer. I’m thinking I’d like to get 1,000.00 for him, but am certainly more than willing to entertain any offers. Here’s my original post below.

We’ve had this vanagon since 97 when we purchased it from the original owner. My husband has been using it as a daily driver until about 3 weeks ago when it began to knock.

In his words: “I was caught in stop and go traffic with no place to pull over when the oil light came on. It was on for about 4 minutes before I could get off the road. I let it cool off and added 1.5 quarts of oil and towed to shop. Once arrived at shop, I had to start it to back it off of the flatbed. No oil light came on and the engine sounded fine. I drove it home (about 1.5 miles). No issues, so drove to Fredericksburg and car started to knock. Added a quart of oil and the van made it home, but with a bad knock.”

The van hasn’t been driven since that day. I don’t know what the van needs done other than to have this issue solved, but I would like any input on this particular issue. I’d also like to know if anyone on the list would be interested in purchasing it for a project van. It’s the model with the rear facing theatre seats, the z bed and the rubber flooring throughout. I’m really flexible on price, so if you’re at all interested, shoot me an email and come on over and see it. One thing I do know is that the odometer stopped working at 175,000 miles and that was a couple of months ago.

Thanks, Karen
