More to be envious about while stuck here in Richmond.  Of course, there is some solace in knowing that by the time you return we'll have moved into the new place with the huge garage.  A better spot from which to launch future trips.  Have fun! Stephen

After 3,900 miles of meandering from Virginia, we arrived in San Diego having only seen 1 bus and 1 Vanagon along the way.  Of course within a few hours of being in San Diego, we have seen an additional 6 Vanagons and those are not even the ones going to Baja.  Amazing to this East Coast guy.

I have always heard how great the weather is in San Diego and if today is any indication, everything I have heard is correct.  Just beautiful!

Only minor issues along the way:  Have brand new Hankook tires but pickled up a nail somewhere before we hit gravel roads in Big Bend so had a slow leak which is now fixed.  Hundreds and hundreds of gravel roads in Alaska without any windshield damage last summer/early fall and as luck would have it, a truck threw a rock on a paved highway somewhere in Texas and chipped the windshield on the passenger side.  Called my insurance company to see if they would help and it turns out my policy is so old that I have no deductible and they will repair/replace at no charge so will do that after the Baja trip.  And the rear window washer line broke in the top opening for the rear hatch---bought a piece of clear tubing at a hardware store and slipped it over both ends of the break and we are back in business and will think about a better fix when we arrive back home.

Meet the Baja bound group at about 7:15 in the morning for the trip which should be wonderful and a great opportunity to put faces with names.
