I've used a bear can for backpacking for some years. In Denali, Yosemite, King's Canyon, Big Bend, Great Smokies. Manufacturers and park rangers state that bears basically ignore these cans, recognizing that they can't get into them. Don't know about the Yeti, but it evidently is approved for use in the Northern Rockies, including Yellowstone. The cans all have gaskets that should seal against odors. Yeti does too. Of course, with the Yeti, the food is supposed to be cold, so less odorous, anyway, I suppose.
But your question sounds reasonable to me.
