Did you get the polarity matched correctly? I once blew the top off a
secondary battery by wiring it backwards with the main. When you do that,
instead of being in parallel with each other, they discharge through each
other. In my case, the secondary was smaller and started making hydrogen
faster than it could vent and popped the plastic casing off the top.The
primary was OK after a recharge, at least.
