My 1975 VW Rabbit owner's manual said that flickering of the oil light after prolonged driving when the engine returned to idle was "normal." Then again, VW used to try to tell me that consumption of up to 1 quart of oil in 500 miles was normal as well (recalled later for crystalizing valve guide seals).

But I digress, my first 1.9 flickered at idle as well and I think it's compression was more than adequate. My remanufactured 1.9 does not do this after 70,000 miles but probably will start in another 30,000 miles or so.

Anyone see the NYTimes article today (Sunday) about the woes of VAG?

And I wish i had a boyfriend who was interested enough in my Vanagon to order parts for it--as it stands, it's hard enough just to get him to ride in it.
