There is no tradition of waving to other Vanagon drivers here in S.Calif. About all I've ever noticed is a knowing glance. It's not being (intentionally) unfriendly. As Vanagons become less common, perhaps that will change. About the only wave you'll see now is ... uh ... nevermind. //Jack
