My '84 did the same thing but on the passenger side. My wife notices it on her feet :) while bringing if back from Virginia last year. We kind of chuckled because my parent '73 westy did the same thing. I bought a new seal from GoWesty, had it installed with a sealer/caulk as described in the Bently and problem solved. FYI, I followed suggestions of having this done profesionally and the folks at Speedy Autoglass broke my old windshield putting it back in so I had to fork out $$$ for a new windshield as they did not guarentee they would not break it. Found out latter from the person insalling it that his helper pushed too hard and cracked it, ARGHH!! So if you go this route you might want to ask around and get someone who has a good referal. I have done these myself on a Bug without too much difficulty but definetly a two person job.
