Subject:      how do make a gauge read lower

I have an aftermarket gauge that i want to read lower, how do I make it happen, do you use a resistor in line?

it is a 12volt water temp gauge, that i am using as an oil temp gauge, that I wish read about 1/3 lower, the upper end is where is reading and once i use the ir thermometer, i will know what is what, but with my eyes, i need the gauge to read a little lower..

any ideas???
