Subject: '87 westy brand new!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Hey hey,

Ok the westy has seen better days - but it's new to me (first VW I've ever owned - bought it 3 weeks ago - $2400! - she has a few issues.) and I'm brand new to the list. I have two little questions that I didn't see really answered in the archive - although I may not have read every post. By the way - holy #$*! this forum is a beautiful thing!

Fridge: Mine seems to work - especially when it's plugged in. When I run it from the battery it doesn't seem to get very cold - but I'm new to this - does the fridge just take a long time to get sufficiently cold? Would a good tip for me the beginner be to plug it in all night before a trip in order for the "while-driving" option to work at it's best? Is the plugged-in fridge colder than the off-battery fridge? and how does the lp-fridge compare to the other two temperature wise? I haven't had the guts to put lp in the rusty tank yet so haven't tried my hand at the quirky-soundinglighting yet.

Sink: The faucet for the sink is mysteriously gone - but the knob is still there. Turning the knob creates no pump action. I was hoping I could at least get a little water to come out. Is the pump notorious for failure? Anyone know how I could easily test to see if the pump needs replacing? I have a new faucet on the way from bus depot - or I will in the next day or two unless someone's partying out and has a working one?

Look forward to more questions from me - I am fascinated with this wonderful van and will have many. If anyone has any parts for an '87 westy that they need to get rid of please contact me.. she needs some tlc!
