I now have several years on the pan, floor, roll cage and engine compartment of the Thing, and I recommend it highly. Key points: 1. it is hard to paint over, you would need to spray it and top-coat just after it flashes, or fine sand (it will tend to peel then) or use the tie-coat that POR sells (no experience with this) 2. it usually makes a nice smooth, glossy finish when applied with a brush 3. the gloss does not last well (turns dull and unevenly colored) when exposed to sunlight for several years (floor and roll cage) but continues to protect and hold up against wear 4. it sticks best to rougher metal, better even to surface rust, than to fully sanded/polished metal. I have had it peel right off of smooth steel and aluminum. On the other hand, remove all the loose or flaking rust. 5. it sticks even better to you! Wear long sleeves and gloves and a hat. I generally use it in the places that rust but you can't see too often, as it is difficult to "finish" if you don't like black. As my westy has had little problem with seam rust I haven't tried it there. |
