Just for the record. Back in the good ole days of 97 when I purchased my FIRST vanagon (an 85 sunroof) I HAD to outfit it with as much "cool stuff" as I could get my hands on. More precisely TWO rotating seat swivels from my local VW recycler.

Upon taking them home to my workshop and welding in the passenger side I was quite impressed with myself.

When I went about installing the driver's side much cursing insued. I at first thought I must have two "passenger" side swivels because vw would not allow a seat swive to only turn 90 degrees!

In making the best of things I carefully trimmed the back of the swivel "base" not the part the seat is on. and trimmed the battery box lid down.

My proud finished product allowed the seat to turn 90 degrees and with no armrest on the 85 I could slide the seat forward on the track to pass center of the steering wheel and turn the seat 180! yee ha!

Also if I unbolted the seat track from the swivel I could get the battery in and out. HA!

The only drawback was I never installed a table and I didnt really ever use the drivers side swivel for anything.

With the hand brake and new shoes on the back I believe I could get the swivel past the lever with the break set but I may be wrong about that.

The pic of the table and both seats turned sure looks romantic in the westy though! Perhaps you fellas should get yourselves some candles and re consider?

It does make it harder to see the guages when the seat is higher, I also think its more comfortable (for me)

Doug
