The bentley's manual says to adjust till it just closes the switch then go
one full turn further then secure with sealent. This sounds like the same
problem that I have right now, does your engine at idle increase for about
30 sec. and then drop down for about 30 sec?

George,
Thank you for your suggestions. RC also suggested I adjust my
throttle position switches.
On the '83 digijet there are two idle position switches. I definitely
know that one of the switches is not set properly. The one that
signals that the throttle body is at idle has it's spring jammed up
against the body of the switch. I've loosened the screw on the
throttle body that pushes up onthe idle switch, but it is still not
set properly.
when I put my transmission back in, the accelerator cable got loosened
up a bit. I have tightened up the accelerator rod in the engine bay
as much as I can tighten it. Howevever, it still needs to be
tightened more.
I didn't realize that the idle position switch would affect the
performance so much at acceleration. I had thought that it would only
affect the engine performance at idle. The van only shows problems
when it transitions from idle to partially open throttle off the line.
As far as getting the idle position switch back to a good setting, is
there a way to adjust the accelerator cable? I looked at the cable
connection at the transmission and it didn't look adjustable.. I
guess there is an adjustment place under the accelerator pedal?
The new AFM is about $350. Buying a new one is going to be a last
resort. I'm going to try and adjust the idle and full-throttle
position switches first. Then, I'll try and tighten the spring inside
the AFM so that I get my fuel/air mixture screw on the AFM back to
working. Right now, it is loosened counterclockwise as much as it
will go.
Thanks.
Regards,
Craig
