There's all kinds of fuel-related problems that can cause this and the best bet is to work through the possible issues logically, using a step-by-step approach. There's good information, including Jetronic manuals, over in the library of the Type2 site.

Many years ago I had a similar problem with my '81 which I eventually traced to a weakened AFM air-vane spring that over-enriched the fuel/air mixture to the point that I couldn't set the mixture properly (lean enough) using the adjusting screw. A simple tightening of the spring fixed that. --------------------------------------------------------------- Tom Young '81 Vanagon Lafayette, CA 94549 '82 Westfalia --------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cunningham Family" <beltaine@FRONTIER.NET> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Wednesday, September 01, 2004 9:20 PM Subject: Flooding

Problem with my 81 Vanagon (imagine that). If I stall out while accelerating, the engine floods and it takes upwards of 40 minutes to restart. rather embarassing if it happens in a public place. So far it hasn't happened in an intersection (yet). Anyone else have this problem or an idea what the problem is?
