You can gross the vehicle out by adding about 650 lbs of folks, food,
luggage. There just is no flexibility with that platform as is, for very
much in the way of use as the Westy/Vanagon is customarily used.

There is a very active Element following (a friend has one). They
haven't gone as far as pop-tops yet, but I suspect it is only a matter
of time. The 4wd ones don't have much ground clearence though.
