 i had to ride a trailways express bus once, from montgomery, alabama
to oakland, california .. 62.5 hours on the same bus. don't recommend
it at all. but it was cheap, especially with a military discount back
then.

anyway, we didn't stop much and we never seemed to take on fuel. so
the first stop after dallas, tx, which was waaaay out almost to el
paso, i asked the driver about his mpg. he said he got about 6mpg on
the open highway, where he could get up to 75mph or higher (and he DID
go faster). so i asks about the fuel he could carry, and he just
laughed. he walked back to the rearmost luggage bay and opened the
door on one side ... inside was a 500-gallon plastic tank with its own
fuel pump, controlled by a switch on the dash. whenever the main tank
got low, he just refilled it from this big tank!!!  made for loooooong
trips. but then, texas is a looooong state from east to west. :)
