Toyota model codes are relatively logical. There is a 2-part body code (letters) followed by a series code (numbers). An FJ40 is the 60s-70s SWB Land-Roverlike tough-boy Cruiser. An FJ60/BJ60 is the model which replaced it.

The model code differs in in the first letter between diesel and gas variants.

So a 1989-1991 Corolla sedan, for instance (including the Sprinter =Geo storm version) is an AE90 and the diesel variant is a CE90. The equivalent wagon is AE/CE960. A 1992-1995 gas Corolla sedan is an AE100. A 1988-1991 Corona sedan is n ST/CT170.
