Once I had my van parked at the edge of the woods for almost 2 weeks while I was away. When I returned, some saplings were pulled against the van forming a rudimentary lean to. A nature lover I know said it might be a bear building a den. That seemed to explained why the moth balls I was putting in the trash were not deterring what I thought were raccoons. Since things were starting to get a little serious, what with the bear planning on moving in for an extended period, I started to search for a serious solution. I called the game commission and they said to place a saucer of ammonia on top of my trash cans. That didn't work. So, I filled a balloon with ammonia and smeared it with the finest bacon grease that my butcher's bacon ever rendered. It must have worked because the bear never was heard of again. I'm just glad I wasn't around whenever he bit into that balloon; I think he was probably more than a little pissed.

George
