OK, so if I fit a 2.2 EFI turbodiesel Toyota engine to my Corolla in place of the 1.8D, fit nitrous & propane injection systems and twin-turbo it, fully counterweight the crank, cc the head and do a full porting job on it, fit a modified camshaft, huge inlet and exhaust, giant airfilter... 550hp/600Nm@7500rpm?

Nitrous oxide is a chemical supercharger; it works by providing the engine with an extra charge of oxygen. Propane is a low-flashpoint fuel and probably acts to effectively lower the "octane" rating (an analogy to gas engines there) ie burn more rapidly and violently.
