Subject: passing CA emissions?
In-Reply-To: <OF3E4F625B.9FA416DC-ON85256F04.0076DFF1-85256F04.007883E9@hewitt.com>

Hello,

I have an 81 aircooled westy and am looking into moving back out to California. A few things ive noticed with the van I have now is:

1. No CAT Converter. Not sure if there was one before, but there is just a pipe where it would usually be.

2. No EGR. The exhaust has a pipe that looks like it would go to where the EGR is, but its just clamped shut and where I think the EGR would connect to the motor (that egg shaped spot) - its sealed off from the inside.

Barring a visual inspection for original equipment, what would I need to do to just get it so it would pass an emissions test? I dont know where I would be on the scale currently, but im sure its not good. I have a few holes in the crossover pipe as well, but maybe between that and the hole for the EGR, enough exhaust gets out before my tail that I wont read all that bad!

thanks for any tips, suggestions or misc tomfoolery.

aircooled chris
