My 84 certainly has a cooler on the AT Trans. I know, I just had it recently rebuilt and had to replace the cooler as well because it was severely corroded and leaking coolant into the ATF. Betcha 83.5 Wasserboxers had 'em too, but I don't have my references handy at the moment while out on the road this weekend.

My transmission was replaced by the original owner under Warranty in 1987 (so noted in the logbook that came with my vehicle). I believe my trans in a "NK" series originally for the 2.1 models. There's very little difference between the "NH" trans (1.9) and the "NK" (2.1), so they're swappable.

<SNIP>

So, who's got their Bentley handy? Does the 84 automatic transmission have that oil cooler thing on its front?
