Subject:      Accelerator Cable Broke...Again!  Why do they break?

Hello All:


Well...with all my other Vanagon "issues" this week
(PS leaking, windshield or other seal leaking,
etc)last night my accelerator cable broke...for the
3rd time since I've owned the van (12 years). Left me
"dead in the water" facing up a steep hill, in the
thick fog, in the middle of nowhere....aaaaargh!!!)


Is this common for them to break this often...and is
there a specific reason they do (that can be
remedied?)
