I live in Canada and driving my 87 Vanagaon GL in the snow is no problem. I have Michelin LTX tires and they perform well. However, more than the tires or the vehicle, you need to learn how to drive in the ice and snow and how it responds to various conditions. When our first snowfall arrives I usually find a large empty parking lot that has not yet been plowed and use it to re-learn how to drive my Vanagon for the winter season. I spend 30 minutes or so slipping and sliding around re-learning the feel for the Vanagon in the snow. Its lots of fun too! - Laurence
