Hello everyone!! First of all, I'd like to apologize to all of you who posted in the last 2 weeks: I set up a vacation response for the first time without realizing that the vanagon list would not be able to process it accurately. I disabled the auto message, so it won't happen again. Now on to pressing matters: I'm broken down in Truckee, CA with my '87 Vanagon (2.1L automatic). The engine is sounding pretty rough with a loud knock at every rotation of the engine and with quite a bit of loss of power. It all happened very quickly over a few miles. Just before that, I was in 2nd with the engine at close to 5,000 rpm. When I brought it back to Drive, the knock/rattle/whatever started happening. I stopped the van on the side of the road, checked the oil -- which was pretty low, added a quart to bring it back to a good level. The day was also pretty hot. Seems like the engine is not eating itself up yet as there is no metal particles in the oil as far as I can tell. Sooo, if anyone could recommend a good Vanagon mechanic ASAP close to Truckee, CA, that would be sweet. I've checked with Auto Doctor and Fast (Past?) & Present, as well as the 76 station close by, and that can all see me tomorrow morning. But I would love to know if there's anyone else close by (within my 100 AAA towing miles) that would do a better job. If you have any ideas, please call me 415-505-0786. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I'll certainly make it worth your while! Thanks in advance!!! A bientot et avec amour, Fuzzy :philippe Firewalking . Coaching . Counseling . French .
