This discussion misses an important consideration. I cannot back this up with a study but I believe window screening tends to make the vehicle look a bit ominous. I travel throughout the country on secondary roads and have deliberately avoided installing window screening even though I know of the positive cooling effects of screening. I want people to be able to see into my van so that I look like I'm not hiding anything. I do this because there's an unmistakeable climate of fear in our country. Because I'm already an outsider relative to the local citizens who see me, (and I'm usually travelling alone--I'm a man) I want to appear as friendly as possible. For the same reason and others, I remove my political bumper stickers when I travel. Again, I want to appear friendly and accessible rather than politically strident. I believe there's more to window screening than cooling the interior of the vehicle. |
