I dove under my Westy with a screwdriver and a mission, I pulled the spade
connection wire off the solenoid, and used the driver to complete the
circuit on the starter, sure enough it turned over immediately.

Although you've temporarily corrected the minor starter problem with just
pinching the connectors down you still need to keep in mind that it is very
often three things that fail or contribute to failures on older cars.
If your starter misbehaves again consider cleaning the solenoid, cleaning
the dust from the interior of your starter and putting a little general
purpose on the thrust washers at the rear end of your starter.

Subject: Stuck Solenoid????
Greetings all, today my van would not turn over even though it has PLENTY of
power. My mechanic is suggesting a stuck Solenoid and swapping out a starter
will fix it, can I get your thoughts?
Symptoms: often there is a delay from turning the ignition switch to when
the engine begins to turn over there is always plenty of power, but one or
two seconds goes by before the engine begins to turn.
Lately it has gotten worse to the point of the van not starting at all.
Battery is new, alternator is new, the van is an 87 Westy.
Thanks all!!!
- Steve
