Please let me express my thanks to all the suggestions I got on this thread,
your help may have solved my problem.
This morning I threw on my grubbies and headed out into the cool crisp N
californian air. I dove under my Westy with a screwdriver and a mission, I
pulled the spade connection wire off the solenoid, and used the driver to
complete the circuit on the starter, sure enough it turned over immediately.
(yes, the van wa sin Neutral, and no, I am not typing this from the ER. :)
With that I new the solenoid was cool, so I cleaned off the connectors and
it seems to work fine. The next test is letting it sit for a day or tool and
let it all fall into place, only then will I know if it worked for sure, at
any rate, a million thanks for all the ideas, this list is better than that
original 91 candy apple red westy we saw in the industry museum in Munich,
it even had the built in ottoman fridge. Too cool!
