I live in northern Maine ... Canada to the north, Canada to the east, Canada
to the west (we have Canadian sunrises and sunsets) and I drive both my
Westy (4 spd) and my 7 passenger (auto) all year.  Both have Nokian Hakka
snow tires and do very well.

There are Vanagons north of me and more than one listmember talks of driving
Vanagons in Alaskan winters.
