good morning list-- quick follow up report on the issue i posted a while back; first let me relay sincere gratitude to Sam Walters, Zoran, B. Wheeler, Hans Achter, Benny boy, J. Lauterbach, kdlewis and Joel for dishing some great advice. what a bitchin' list. Issue was a fouled up fuel injector, which local mechanic replaced as a pair with good used parts he had accrued from doing subaru conversions (nice to keep cost down). Don't yet completely understand how an injector may have come to be bad, perhaps some of you have insightful anecdotes. Due to time and patience wearing thin i had to resort to paying a mechanic to do the job, however alls well that ends well, and many good things have come of the process: I've learned a ton about how my van works as i spent time staring into the engine from above and below, working through the Bentley and the advice from the list. Have many clean wiring grounds, new and good condition fuel system parts, and in general a deeper peace, based on understanding, of the running condition of the vehicle. Bought some tools to do future maintenance work that i've paid for in the past. Have a properly aligned airfilter, ;) heh. Finally, the satisfaction of the engine being at full power again is immense. I maybe know how Kim Brennan and others feel experiencing their new Subie conversions for the first time-- my 1.9 has been underpowered for so long that, now back at peak performance i (amusingly, i know) feel like i'm in a hot rod. heh. I also think i've caught some kind of bug-- i now randomly find myself thinking of various mechanical and aesthetic improvements i've seen online etc. that would suit the vehicle well, despite it being in fine running condition. Thanks again/ sp

Two things come to mind...O2 sensor and cat.

Try disconnecting the O2 and see if there is a difference. Hit the cat and listen for rattling sounds. If the internals break down, you experience the exact symptoms you note.
