Though I am unfamiliar with diesel nor ever own one, don't they have extremely high pressure to atomize the fuel. Pressure orders higher than a typical gasoline fuel injection. Also most diesel pump (at least in the old days) is a mechanical pump driven by the engine power. It is not surprising that the filter is before the pump.

Vince,

It isn't that simple and there isn't a "Vanagon's standard configuration."

For gas engines, the filter is before the pump, as per Bentley for: AC, p 20.2 - 20.3 and 20.4 Digijet, 20.16 - 20.17 and 20.18, both the small plastic cube like filter,

but there are two filters shown for the Digifant, the standard small plastic one before the pump and the larger canister type after it:

Bentley, 20.26-20.27, except that the Syncro only is shown with one, the

canister type after the pump, 20.34.

OK, equal time, the filter, very different, is before the pump in a diesel, 20,10.

Sam
