It explains the meaning of offset (ET) but then does a poor job of discussing the issued involved in connection with changing wheel width and maintaining proper offset. Stock Vanagon wheels used ET39 -ET30, 5.5" -6.5" width. The wheels you are trying to fit are a reasonable offset but a radical width for the vehicle. In order to accommodate that width you will have to radically alter the offset with spacers. Just how radically will depend on the tires. Let us know what you end up with for tire sizes and spacer thicknesses and whether you can open the sliding door past the tire.
