my wife and I eat very well on our trips
our westy Kitchen makes us Beef Fajitas, Homemade Chili, Pasta with Fra
Diavalo Sauce, savory crepes, pan roasted lobster with mushrooms we are
lucky enough to forage on our trips, Fondue with Crusty bread, etc... blah,
blah, blah. Breakfast includes the usual homemade pancakes (Huckleberries
if we can find them), biscuits and gravy, Brazilian coffee (Cone Filter and
Slow Drip ONLY!)
It helps that we are both professional chefs and we do most our "Mise en
Place" at home, so when we are camped cooking is a snap. We cook inside, we
eat inside, the van gets a great homemade meal smell until we air it out at
home, clean curtains and clean interior. smells have never lingered.
we keep a pretty good wine list on our trips as well!
Propane barely lasts us 2 weeks because we use it a lot. once we did a beef
braise on a trip, cooked the meat slowly in red wine (no flambe from wine)
on very low flame for about 3-4 hours, propane lasted less then a week.
Fridge works so well we never need another cooler unless a lot of friends
are coming then we need more beer storage. now winter is pretty close here
in western montana and we are nearing then end of camping, maybe one more
trip to the gorge to see jack johnson next weekend.
we got camp cooking down to a science. if anyone would like some tips or
recipes for westy cooking please pmail me and i'll be happy to help.
for me camping is as much eating well, as it is enjoying nature for mental
well-being. if the food is not good, then the trip lacks something!
