I use the German OEM hoses so that they are the correct diameter to work
with the hoses. I changed the clamps on the oil cooler, thermostat to metal
pipe hose and the water pump pipe to right block inlet clamps. I do not
like the worm clamps because they need occasional tightening as the hose
settles. I have had them dig into the hose and end up not tightening as
tight on the hose and allowing leaks. On the oil cooler pipe to water pump
I used 16 mm fuel injection clamps to avoid the digging in.
Also clean the hose and fitting to avoid dirt or dirty hoses from being a
problem.
I did have a problem with one clamp leaking before on the hose on the oil
cooler going to water pump and had to put a worm clamp on it to stop the
leak. The hose was a Brazilian hose and I was guessing it was slightly
smaller than the German hose and did not allow as much tightening force.
This time I used a German hose and it was still loose but I put two black
spring clamps on it to keep it tight. Hopefully this time it will not leak.
I have not driven the van because I miscalculated the amount of coolant I
would need and have to get some more on Monday, then testing. So far from
what I run it adding the coolant and it is not leaking :)
When I rebuilt my engine I decided to keep the stock clamps because they
were not leaking after 10 years and I figured that having new hoses and
reusing the clamps would still be leak free... (except for two clamps that
leaked and were fixed. But two out of what 30+ clamps in 16 years is good)

I have had bad luck with the OEM spring clamps. You seemingly have not. Any
secerts to keep them from leaking?
