I think the walk in from the West side is considerably longer than going through Lone Pine to the Whitney Portals. AFAIK it's not possible to do the Sequoia side in a day. YMMV Mike Oh, yeah, it's still quite warm over there according to my buddy in Bishop, but you always have to bring layers for Whitney.
