I used a flat black spray paint, nothing special if I recall. My front was painted by an autobody shop, with a slightly glossier paint, which is a bit more durable. It's more like a latex semi-gloss, in terms of sheen, whereas the spray I used was definitely *flat*, so not quite a durable. Still, I stand on the bumpers on occasion, and it hasn't worn off.
