NH Series = 1.9 83.5-85 Vanagon NK Series = 2.1 86-91 Vanagon

There are differences, such as the valve body, but as a whole unit, one should bolt in place of the other and run just fine, according to others I've spoke to over the years. I believe the final drive assembly (gear ratio) is the same, but I'd have to check my references.
