Subject:   vanagon stall 'n stumble resolved
Content-Type:   text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Hi all, Just wanted to post to the List my success in solving a vanagon " challenge ". Actually, I would have saved a lot of work had I gone immediately to Bentley and systematically gone through the fuel injection checks. Instead, I relied on my fuzzy memory of the system and overlooked a simple but necessary component. My van was stalling and stumbling at takeoff but only after the van had been driven a while and was warmed up. I switched the various FI components ( I have another van so I can do this ) Nothing changed so I suspected the throttle position switch was out of adjustment, which I readjusted. At first this seemed to solve the problem but the van only ran well when cold. So I continued to scratch my head and ponder the possibilities, which as most vanagon caretakers know can be numerous. I removed the engine cover for the umpteenth time and finally I noticed the culprit. One of the wires on the power steering pressure switch had broken, voila, problem solved after replacing the push on connector. Should have taken a minute and looked in the Bentley!
